Research

Our research is based on the premise that the social context of people's lives and the physical environments in which they live and work matter deeply to their health and well-being. We focus our research on four themes.

Social Context
We have described a conceptual framework that illustrates the social contextual pathways by which social class and race/ethnicity may influence health behaviors.

Worksites and Labor Unions
The work environment plays an important role in worker health – whether through possible exposures to job hazards or stress on the job, or through supportive social networks and opportunities to build self-esteem.

Tobacco Control in India
By 2030, about 70% of deaths attributed to tobacco use will occur in low- and middle-income countries, accounting for more than 10 million deaths globally.

Dissemination Research

We are interested in understanding the process of dissemination of tested best practices. We are exploring the process of the dissemination of our tested union-based interventions in collaboration with a joint labor-management health and welfare fund
